Truth and Reconciliation

September 30th is Truth and Reconciliation Day
Page under construction. This is a very important page and some research is required to ensure I get this right.

What is Truth and Reconciliation?
The walk starts at the Harbour Quay, moves North along lower third avenue, to Victoria Quay, out river road, across the Orange Bridge, up to Tseshaht Maht Mah for a full day of speeches and events.

Walk over Orange Bridge
The walk now goes over the Orange Bridge, the Somass River underneath, and onto the traditional territory of the Tseshaht First Nations

Smudging Ceremony
As you enter the Maht Mah location of the Tseshaht traditional territory for a day of reconciliation, you will participate in a traditional smudging ceremony.

Maht Mah
The Maht Mah is part of the Tseshaht First Nations traditional territory. This is where the Truth and Reconciliation Walk ends and the day of speeches, events and ceremonies begin.

Community Fire
A community fire is an important of the reconciliation process and the center of the day's activities. It is also an important and symbolic event for the people of Tseshaht.

Speeches
Members of the First Nations community speak. This is the time to listen and learn!

Every Child Matters
Seeing the various Orange Shirts with "Every Child Matters" logo will fill your heart with both despair of the past and hope for the future.
